Admissions Criteria 2014

The Governors of The English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College are responsible for all admissions.  The Admissions Policy will be applied on an equal preference basis.  The Governing Body intends to admit up to 240 students to Year 7 in September 2013.  Places will be allocated, in the first instance, to those children who have a statement of special educational needs where the school is named in the statement.  When the school is over-subscribed, admissions will be in accordance with the following criteria expressed in order of priority.

1. Looked after Children in the care of a local authority or children that were looked after by a local authority and immediately after that became subject to an adoption, residence or special guardianship order (see definitions).

2. Catholic children attending the Catholic partner primary schools.

3. Catholic children attending other Catholic schools.

4. Other Catholic children.

5. Children who are not Catholic who have a sibling at the school in September 2013 according to the following order of priority:

    a. Siblings who are not Catholic but who are baptised Christians who attend a Catholic partner primary school and who can demonstrate that they are practising members of another Christian denomination.

    b. Siblings who are not Catholic but who are baptised Christians and who can demonstrate that they are practising members of another Christian denomination.

    c. Siblings who are not Christian but who can demonstrate that they are practising members of another faith.

    d. Siblings who are not Catholic but who are baptised Christians and who attend a Catholic partner primary school.

    e. Siblings who are not Catholic but who are baptised Christians and whose parents wish them to benefit from a Catholic education.

    f. Siblings who are not Catholic whose parents wish them to benefit from a Catholic education.

6. Children who are not Catholic but who attend a Catholic partner primary school according to the following order of priority:

    a. Children who are baptised Christians and who can demonstrate that they are practising members of another Christian denomination.

    b. Children who are not Christian but who can demonstrate they are practising members of another faith.

    c.  Children who are baptised Christians.

    d. Children whose parents wish them to benefit from a Catholic education.

7. Children who are not Catholic but who are baptised Christians and who can demonstrate that they are practising members of another Christian denomination.

8. Children who are not Christian but who can demonstrate that they are practising members of another faith.

9. Children who are not Catholic but who are baptised Christians and whose parents wish them to benefit from a Catholic education.

10. Children who are not Catholic whose parents wish them to benefit from a Catholic education.

The Governors will look to parents to demonstrate a strong desire for their child to benefit from the specifically Catholic/Christian life of the school.  The school will seek evidence of this.
