Enterprising students have designs on success after winning a business competition heat.

Munchins was launched by Year 12 business and textiles students who produce personalised aprons and recipe books for children. The students hope to target the product at parents to encourage them to cook with their children. They have already sold a number of the products in school as well as nurseries and primary schools.

They now move onto the regional final on 15 June with the chance of being named Company of the Year and representing the North East at the national final in London this July.

Rotary Youth Speaks 2010 - Winners of the Regional Final
Congratulations to our senior team of Aarthi Suresh, Alex Craig and Sree Krishnamoorthy who won the regional final of the Rotary Youth Speaks Competiton. They now go on to the national final at Stratford upon Avon on 8th May in competition with seven other teams. Good Luck. News1

The junior team of Harrison Smith, Broccan Carlin and Lily Smith were second in their category.  This is an immense achievement for both teams.

Each year hundreds of young people take part in local and regional events that culminate in this RIBI final, which sees participants travelling from throughout the British Isles to take part.
Teams come from schools, colleges, youth training schemes or youth groups and comprise three members: the chairman, the speaker and the proposer of the vote of thanks.

The competition aims to offer young people:

  • An experience of speaking on a public platform as members of a team.
  • An incentive to formulate ideas on significant subjects.
  • The discipline in dealing with a topic in a limited time.
  • The opportunity of learning and practising high standards of expression, presentation and appearance.
  • The impartial criticism and assessment of performance by experienced adjudicators.

Students from across Great Britain and Ireland will be battling it out for the title of RIBI Youth Speaks champions at this prestigious event.
